A CATCHING PAINTING!

Painting exhibitions as the one performed now by Daniel Borda and supported and recognized by LUIS PEREZ GALERIA for a future already begun in Borda are not very frequent. And it is not easy to try to explain with words a visual process and try to open a door already completely opened by the painter.

Shape and Tension

But let’s say that the vitalizing force (Explosions, Totemic Silhouettes, Deities – Omega) of each one of Borda’s paintings tries to fix, without any explanations, what the artist sees. Risking himself in an odd edge which freely expresses the implosive and as well as the explosive, or the own ways of a perception just shown through Shape and Tension.

The artist talk about a collective conscience got into the atavistic memory and supported in testimonial atmospheres, mists, arches and some almost physiological and strange rocks suggesting presences within their own absences. Something like “psycho-presences” which may symbolize sticky and almost in-embryo sexualities or energies that in rising giddiness make also remember civilizations, lost cities, dolmens whose mythological references have been already eaten by age. But for Borda’s purpose they are references that just take part of a process where relationships begin to be visually shaped, incorporated. In other words, when the interruption of their spaces continues convoking and sharpening desolating ochre color zones with contained colors or colors beginning to escape as a result of something similar to an Annihila-Renaissance recognized by the artist as all the sacred contained on the great apocalypse which is always pushing in his topic and according to Borda’s explanation, they come to his mind as a series of symbols of the four common elements which are like the flow of things completed by Borda with a fifth element or quintessence: The Thought. The artist also expresses that everything seems to be made by a unique primeval material, constant in all the universe and in the cosmos which magnifies his work. Even though is being supported by a natural line, he pursues a Magic-Religious meaning.

From the cosmos, its atmospheres are beginning to configure one style completely concerned with its parallel concept. That supports its drawings, with water colors and pastel, pencil or even acrylic colors, to get at the end some kind of carnival with conscience and to allow further enrichments. With the double purpose of dramatizing the line’s function and invention audacity with elements and happening able to mature a style increasingly personal and owner of something we can call now the originality of his expressive drama. Once surpassed the sensationalistic drawing in which the spell pursued by Borda looses age. And his oils, monochromes and polychromes producing chromatic veils which seem from other age: Communication streams that fall and at the end interlace slopes that get into the visual game: Air – water, earth – fire or the ambient temperature which will evaporate water allowing it to flow. All his painting’s contents, continue as well as compact, according to Borda is not a work based on a hypothesis nor on theories to justify an experience. Thus, there is not any absolute: “I just let myself carry away”.

And Then The Nature

Not being the chaos an easy guest to testify the dramatic concept of Borda’s work, it is seen in his paintings the elements’ metamorphosis. The solid ground moves like jelly that bears color and confusion. Trees may seem climbing and clouds coming down. Borda says it is a kind of gravity (Anti-gravity?) that irradiates itself to all limits of the space that contains them. There is always the light that testifies, keeps distance and sharpens everything: Twinklings, red glows, but just often; sun: Rarely; moon: Seldom birds.

Trees and bushes — flower, hallucinated, they remind some kind of the Zen’s expression. With the personification of the arboreal, they make them manifest as consciousness of a drama. Walking-trees, mangrove swamps that placed in the foreground are waiting; expectant at what may happen. It’s the same deep occurrence that makes vibrate in the portent all his paintings’ findings.

“…it’s not either my purpose to transmit anguish, states the artist. Anguish for me is like a way to attack people. One just goes accomplishing processes”.

Time and Space

Could it be said that in Daniel Borda’s work the time concept seems to be his property? Isn’t he the one who enlarges it? Isn’t he the one who compresses it? And when the material phenomena are submitted to such huge pressures like elements, like his paintings, energy moves them away, makes them vibrate. They are transformed (looking for) finally, the light. Magic force of his environments, the chaos order, panic harmony of paintings that are also a kind of kingdom of absolute quietude… A great quietude that nonetheless leaves a trace and, like the footprint, is witness of a crossed time in a space that finishes being architecture. Then, a shape that does not allow chaos to get free and that’s why the geography that took Borda’s thematic is not completely disintegrated, nor questioned like surrealists once did.

When Borda breaks more than once the space and the traditional concept of dimension, being contracted or magnified by atmospheres that flow like algae which seem to be raised or to be dancing, looking for a desperate something and, as reminder of a great shipwreck, represent the own and personal scene of drama and where the result is a sensation of oppression or essential cry… singular landscapes and outlines blocked by mountainous silhouettes from which it can only be assumed no more than the abysses’ panic, of the great abysses.

Strange rocky ledge which de-veil faces or symbolizes sexualities as if the traditional relationships among things have the categorical order of being suspended reigning in desolated zones of the Annihila-Renaissance. That’s why also the landscapes that become transfigured by new dimension, though recognizable for us are looking for another penetration. After all, environments that conceived with esoteric shapes of metamorphosis finish loaded with meaning.

Is Daniel Borda penetrating new scopes of creative expression? That’s where the challenge is!. Challenge and stubbornness that will take the artist to the other side. To be definitively installed in that heaven of good painting. Because such are talent matters and such are welcomed battles that Borda has already started to win.
